40 Percent of Men Visit the Philippines For Sex?

An official of the United States in Manila, the Philippines declared the Philippines has become one of the sex tourist destination in the world. As many as 40 percent of foreign men who visited the Philippines intends to obtain sexual services.

U.S. Ambassador Harry Thomas said in a forum of judges and officials of the Philippines that the role of corrupt officials in the sex trade is very clear. He challenged the legal profession to eliminate 'scourge' is.

"We know 40 percent of foreign men who come to the Philippines, including the U.S., comes to sexual tourism. It is not something I'm proud of. It's not something to be proud of," said Thomas.

"Any U.S. citizen who was captured and engaging in cybersex crime or should be prosecuted to the full extent of law and we will help (you)," Thomas said he told the Minister of Justice Leila de Lima.

Prostitution is illegal in the Philippines which is a Catholic country in Asia. But the growing sex trade activity in the open in urban areas, including Manila.

The Philippine government denied the claims of Thomas. "Of course it is something that we want our cut. We're not sure where this statistic comes from," said assistant secretary Domingo Tourism Enario told AFP news agency quoted from news.au.com.

Tourism department spokesman Benito Bengzon also stressed that sex tourism is not part of the government campaign.

Philippines noted, the number of tourists in 2010 amounted to 3.5 million people. The government is targeting to acquire 6 million foreign tourists visit in 2016.
